Early Children Education

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

From the moment we come kicking and screaming into this world, we are learning. We learn to cry to make our needs known. We learn to hold our heads up, to sit, to crawl and then finally to stand and walk. We learn what tastes good or terrible by putting things into our mouths. We learn that falling down hurts and try to learn how not to do it anymore. We struggle to learn how to use the potty chair and then to move up to the big toilet. Every day we, itty-bitty humans learn, but it does not count as “formal” education.

Some children do not begin school until they reach the age of five, and these are the ones that usually come to kindergarten, unprepared, and
inconsolable. Education was not discussed with them, they had no idea of what to expect and then all of a sudden, they are dropped off at a strange building filled with children that they do not know. They are not properly socialized to being within such a large group and overwhelmed, they weep.

State law says that every child must be involved in some form of education beginning at the age of five, but some parents opt to start their children’s education at a far younger age. Preschool programs can teach children how to share with others, as well as some of the basic learning skills that they will need for their further education. These children will be better prepared to start kindergarten – school is not a big mystery to them, they have already been there.

If finances are an issue, Headstart is available for lower income children. Basically the same as other preschool programs, this government funded program provides early educational experience to children who may have otherwise not been able to afford it. All three of my own children went to Headstart and loved it. I loved it too, it taught them that education was not something to be scared of, and that it could really be something fun. When it was time for kindergarten, each met the prospect of going to school with excitement and joy rather than with fear and apprehension.

It doesn’t really matter which program your children are enrolled in, education at an early age can set them on the path that will have them seeking and receiving the best for their whole lives. You do not spark the fiery passion of learning in the senior year of high school- you have to excite these children early and hope that they stay excited.

Making Home Schooling Your Children Fun

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Seeing your children go to school and learn things can be fun. It makes you feel that you have, in a way, imparted them the most treasured gift that you can give them. However, with many influences that lurk in school, you might even wonder if sending them to school is the best gift, indeed. Many parents are worried how children are getting their behaviors changed whenever they are in school. That’s why homeschool had been created in order to provide a feasible option for parents who wish to educate their children in a way where they can supervise personally. They want to find a way where they can instill in them the values that they want their children to have.

All of these things are contained in homeschooling. In this manner, parents are able to control and instigate the kind of education they want their children to learn. They can manage their children’s behavior and impart in them the values that they want their children to learn. However, what people do not know is that the very important aspect why homeschooling is a great alternative to traditional schooling is based on the fact that both the parents and the children can have fun learning things. With homeschooling, parents can make their children’s learning process more fun and less rigid compared to the traditional school system.

The best way to teach a child is to make things easier for him or her to understand and learn. The best way to do this is to incorporate fun in the setting. For instance, if you want to teach your children to read, it would be better if you will read to them just to have some fun. Let them enhance their imagination by generating life in the characters included in the story. In this way, they will be able to learn things with lots of fun. Create a connection with their books and not instill in them the norms and standards set by the typical school system.

If the children or the students are comfortable with the program, then homeschooling can be more fun. It will generate more enthusiasm compelling the children to participate in the process. The point here is that in order to make homeschooling more fun is that parents should never be constrained on the idea of teaching itself. They should teach by example. That is, indeed, a fun way of learning things.
